Families enjoyed discovering aspects of Upper Nidderdale’s nature and history at a Family Fun Day held on Wednesday 5th August. At the AONB volunteer base, Bewerley, Time Spies could try their hand at an archaeological excavation whilst Nature Detectives made their own butterflies and dragonflies. At the same time, children and adults gathered in Fishpond Wood to try their hand at pond dipping, make bug hotels and to discover the recently restored icehouse. Pizza making was very popular, particularly amongst the children who enjoyed creating their pizza and then watching them cook in the wood-fired earth oven.
‘It was a fantastic day and great to see so many people really getting involved in the activities.’ said Louise Brown, Historic Nidderdale Project Officer, adding ‘Pond dipping in Fishpond Wood proved a great hit and we are very grateful to the owner for his support.’ One parent commented ‘Super setting, splendid pizzas… a lovely relaxed vibe.’
